The Examination Process

The Examination Process

When you come to the office for your first visit, you can expect to be asked many questions about your medical history. We will want to know all of your past medical conditions, past surgical procedures, current medications and dosages, medication allergies, your family medical history and any current symptoms you might be experiencing. It is important for you to provide complete and candid information so that we have as accurate and detailed a history as possible.

You will receive a thorough physical examination which may be followed by certain laboratory tests. These may include some or all of the following: blood analysis (including complete blood count), serum chemistries related to liver and kidney function, serum cholesterol and its components, stool sample, X-rays, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function testing, endoscopy (including colonoscopy and upper endoscopy) screening for colon cancer and detection and treatment of acid reflux disorders and GERD. Your care will be customized depending on the information you give us in your history and any findings we discover during your physical examination.

You will be asked to call the office a few days after your visit to discuss the results of your laboratory tests and any recommended lifestyle, dietary or pharmacological therapies.

We also administer many vaccinations, including the yearly influenza vaccine, boosters of tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps or rubella as needed, vaccines that are often given to older age groups such as the zoster vaccine to help prevent painful shingles and the pneumococcal vaccine to help prevent pneumonia, and vaccines that may be necessary prior to travel such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B or polio vaccines. We are now certified to administer the yellow fever vaccine.
